The holiday season is an enchanting time, not only for families with young children but, rather, self-indulgently, for us as well. We love developing ideas to entertain young minds and find joy in introducing children to the wonders of the wider world.
Our goal is to educate and empower children through engaging and immersive journeys. To create the stories that define memories of childhood and welcome them into the magical world of Based On A True Story.
After all, time spent with family is the greatest gift of all…
How does Santa deliver so many presents? How do Reindeer fly? What is the secret to his magic?
These were some of the questions discussed between a young family on their first night during dinner in a cosy log cabin deep within the Swedish Arctic…
Their waitress, with snow-blonde hair and dazzling blue eyes, was listening in. She had a secret to share…
A remarkable story followed, where a brother and sister set out on a quest to discover and capture the magic that makes Christmas happen.
Alongside a team of Arctic guides, entertainers and magicians — a place where everyone has pointed ears — they made a very special discovery and experienced a world of magic like no other children.
And together, they helped make Christmas happen…
When two boys stepped off their family jet in the north of Scotland, things weren’t quite as they expected.
For starters, everyone talked funnily and in rhyme and riddle. The men also wore fancy checkered skirts seemed to favour prancing around at all times rather than walking.
Then, a very unusual-looking chauffeur introduced himself as Fergus, the Laird of Fizzlebottom. As the family climbed aboard his gleaming vintage Rolls Royce, he announced jovially:
“Welcome to the land of Celts,
And, lads, best fasten your belts.
Today we drive both high and low.
So, drum roll, curtains, on with the show.
But first, if you both agree,
In magic and what’s meant to be,
We must pass through a blizzard,
T’is the only way to find The Wizard.”
What followed was a most fabulously entertaining journey to discover the enchanted and magical world of The Wizard.
Highlights in Scotland included an engaging private ‘mythical’ Highland Games; the discovery of a magical map that led to a treasure hunt to uncover local myths and ancient artefacts through unusual encounters; a potion-making class, and crafting wands alongside friendly creatures in the woods.
They also prepared food for the wizard’s pet, Nessie, on Loch Ness, explored ancient ruins that magically came to life with hidden folk, and learned magic tricks from a magician.
For a family with both young and older children and parents committed to conservation, our aim was to craft an engaging family adventure with a meaningful exploration of global environmental challenges.
Their adventure was framed around an ancient saga, filled with magical discoveries for the younger ones, ultimately empowering the children to make bold, positive choices for a better planet.
And so, on their first evening in Iceland, a knock at the door revealed an ancient scroll adorned with unusual markings—a delivery from the Elves, proclaiming they were the chosen ones to help the Viking Spirit Eric the Bold.
The scroll revealed that Iceland had recently faced chaos due to erupting volcanoes and the trickster god Loki’s plan to plunge the island into darkness. But hope remained: the children could unite nature’s forces to persuade Loki to change his ways.
Thus, the children embarked on a mission to help while the family as a whole explored Iceland’s most special locations. The children encountered The Viking and also the Aesir spirits including Odin (the all-father), Thor, (the god of thunder) and Frigg (Goddess of family and love), who govern life and nature.
Their adventure concluded with a joyous celebration alongside local villagers, filled with bonfires, merriment, singing, and dancing.
