From the rippling golden dunes of the Gobi Desert to the wild and rugged Altai Mountains and the endless open steppe of the Central Heartland. Mongolia’s vast, diverse landscape is an incredible playground for any intrepid explorer.

Outside of the cities, the traditional choice of accommodation for nomadic Mongolians is a ‘ger’ tent – sturdy and reliable, yet easily transportable so that families can migrate their grazing herds to new pastures as the seasons change.

The circular shape and sloping aerodynamic roof makes them resistant to winds of any direction, while the central wood-fired stoves and thick felt lining ensures that the interior stays warm and cosy, even on the coldest of nights; gers are perfectly adapted to nomadic life and are an unmistakable icon of Central Asia’s cultural geography.

They are also perfect for expedition travel through this region, and can be adapted and upgraded to provide exceptionally comfortable bases, so there is no need to forego any luxuries while discovering the incredible surrounding environment.

Spacious bedroom gers are assembled with a super king-size bed, adorned in soft, silky cotton sheets and plump down pillows. A large en-suite bathroom features a hot shower, snug bath robes, a discreet eco-loo, and handmade organic toiletries, including nourishing yak milk & charcoal soap.

Wooden floors are lined with the finest soft wool Kazakh rugs and the walls adorned with exquisitely embroidered hangings, crafted by local women using centuries-old techniques. Each intricate pattern combining ancient symbols that tell stories of life in the mountains.

Handmade slippers made from locally sourced wool ensure toes are kept extra warm – by supporting these regional handicrafts your visit also helps maintain the livelihoods of local nomadic communities who take great pride in keeping their history and traditions alive.

A separate dining and living ger can be transformed into almost anything…a library, a wellness therapy room and sauna, a yoga studio, or even a cinema ger with a pull-down film projector.

Using the camp’s powerful telescope and guided by one of Ulaanbaatar’s top astronomers, they can also make for an excellent observatory, to map out Mongolia’s endless night sky.

Exceptional, friendly staff are always at hand to serve meals, light fires and prepare sundowners, remaining discreet enough for you to experience the expansive wilderness in true peace, and your private chef prepares carefully selected menus using local produce. Traditional enough cuisine to satisfy a curious appetite, but also plenty of delicious morsels of a less adventurous style to fuel the days’ adventures, just in case traditional Mongolian nomadic fare is not to your taste!

And while there is plenty to do inside the ger, the real fun begins when you step outside. Head out camel or horse riding across the wide-open plains and refine your prowess with some of the world’s most skilled equestrians. Trek or paraglide through the towering Altai Mountains or try your hand at wilderness survival.

Track legendary beasts such as the snow leopard and Siberian ibex, or practice an ancient form of falconry with the Kazakh Eagle Hunters. Discover the expertise and adaptability required to thrive in a harsh and ever-changing environment by learning the nomadic ways of life, firsthand. Or simply turn off from modern complications and tune in to the outstanding natural beauty of this wild and wonderful country.
